Approach to Treatment
I practice using contemporary psychoanalytic theory. The analytic way of working is exploratory and insight oriented. It is based on the principle that a relationship with a skilled practitioner who brings their knowledge and experience together with yours can be transformative and healing. Specific goals vary according to you and what you want to achieve. Some people come for support during a difficult period in life or reactions to a recent event, others to deal with longstanding problems.
No human being is exempt from pain, loss, shortcomings, or sadness. However we have the power to choose how we proceed within our circumstances. A psychodynamic approach helps you to know yourself deeply so that you may evaluate, and make changes to limiting thoughts, feelings and patterns. While beneficial, the aim isn't insight alone. It is the experience of being deeply understood, and the awareness generated in that process, that can ultimately lead to adaptive psychological shifts and progress in life.
In sessions I encourage you to share what’s on your mind. I listen, ask questions, reflect, give feedback, start to identify patterns and make meaning with you about what is shared. I consider the person in the context of the environment and center my work around who you are as complete individual rather than a diagnosis. Your needs, my training, experience and what emerges in the moment guide the interventions.
